UL Prospector

Free global ingredient database

Visit supplier

A free professional database, not a shop. Search any INCI name to find every supplier and distributor for it worldwide, then request specification sheets and samples directly. The right tool when nothing above stocks what you need.

How to buy well

Start smaller than you think

Buy 100 g to 1 kg of a new material before committing to bulk. Every supplier above sells sample-friendly sizes except where noted — use them to test how an ingredient behaves in your formula, not just on paper.

Always collect three documents

For every purchase, download or request the specification sheet, the safety data sheet (SDS), and the certificate of analysis (COA) for your lot. If a supplier can't produce a COA for the lot you're buying, choose a different supplier.

Match the INCI, not the trade name

Trade names vary between suppliers. Check the INCI name on the listing matches the ingredient your formula calls for — 'conditioning emulsifier' can describe several different materials with different usage rates.

Certification lives with the grade

COSMOS/Ecocert, natural-origin and vegan status depend on the exact grade a supplier stocks, not on the ingredient itself. Ask for the certification documents before making any natural or organic claim on your label.

Compare shipped cost, not shelf price

A cheaper base price can lose to shipping minimums, duties and slow freight. For international orders, price the total landed cost before deciding where to buy.

Ask oils and butters for fresh-ship dates

Oils and butters age. Reputable suppliers ship recent stock and print best-by dates — ask for the harvest or fill date on larger orders so your formula doesn't start life with a shortened shelf life.

Know who you're buying from: repackager or distiller

Western suppliers are mostly repackagers — they buy in bulk and split it into small sizes, which is perfect for lab materials like emulsifiers, preservatives and surfactants. Origin exporters in India and South Asia distil or press the material themselves, which usually means better prices and fresher oils, but larger minimums, longer freight and the need to check the GC-MS report yourself.

For imported oils, ask for the GC-MS report

A gas chromatography report shows the actual chemical make-up of that batch and is the clearest proof an essential oil is unadulterated. Serious origin exporters supply one per lot on request — treat a refusal as a reason to buy elsewhere.

Suppliers listed here ship from and within the regions shown; many also ship internationally at higher cost. Availability, pricing and certification status change without notice, and nothing on this page is a substitute for the supplier's own documents. When a material is out of stock everywhere, search its INCI (official label) name in UL Prospector to find distributors worldwide.
